The
beautiful little hill station of Ooty is situated in the Nilgiri region in the
state of Tamil Nadu. Also known as Udhagamandalam, the city is blessed by picturesque
views with coffee and tea plantations and trees like conifers, eucalyptus, pine
and wattle dotted all over the place. The area was discovered by the British
in the early 19th century and developed by John Sullivan as a summer retreat
for the British officers in Madras. Some of the main tourist attractions of
the city are Botanical Garden, Ooty Lake, Doddabetta Park and Pykara Falls.
Climate
The climate of Ooty remains pleasant throughout the year. However, the best
time to visit the place are the months from February to May and September to
November. Light woollen clothes are enough during the summer season while heavy
woollens are recommended during the winters.

flight is via Coimbatore.
» By Rail - Ooty is connected to Mettupalayam through
a narrow gauge railway line. The nearest broad gauge connection is Mettupalayam
(46 km). Coimbatore is a major railhead, connected to all the main Indian cities.
» By Road - Travelling to Ooty through road is a different
experience. Regular bus services are available from all the neighbouring cities
including Bangalore, Mysore, Coimbatore, Calicut, Kanyakumari etc.
Local Modes Of Transport
Local buses, taxis and rickshaws can be hired to move through the city. Travelling
through the city at a leisurely pace will enable you to fully experience the
