Fitness centres - Like all things active gym, our health spas, health and fitness clubs and gyms are designed with you in mind.

There is no typical gym user, just as there isn’t a typical group of people who like to use health spas. That’s why Active welcomes people from all walks of life and all levels of fitness.

Health clubs - active gym offer a range of fitness facilities, including a gym, swimming pools and instruction in yoga, spinning and boxercising.

They also offer a range of beauty treatments including facials, massages and tanning. The clubs usually include a cafe and internet access.

Are fitness centres and health synonymous? Judging by the number of fit (relatively) individuals that die of heart attacks while running, cycling or playing squash, clearly not.

Active clubs are promoted as social venues that offer a complete range of activities and facilities. We were welcomed as we entered the gym and the staff were attentive and very helpful.

They explained about the wellbeing approach and their philosophy for catering for all - showing us the cafes, free internet facilities, computer games and music listening posts.

The facilities were superb - using Technogym, you simply insert your 'key' and it sets up the machine with your settings. There was also a great cross section of older and younger users at the time we went - not somethgin you always see.
